Some of you might know that my favourite make up brand is MUA (Make Up Academy) which is exclusive to Superdrug. I thought I would show you some of my favourite products from them. Why are they my favourite brand? Well, the quality of them is amazing. The price is even better. One of the cheapest brands I’ve ever seen, you can do your whole face for £10.
The first is their foundation Matte Perfection with Shine Control. A foundation for £5 you don’t think it isn’t going to be much good, but honestly it’s really amazing. With medium coverage and shine control it stops oily skin from being noticed. The pump packaging lets it down a little as I sometimes have trouble getting it out but a few pumps later and its fine. Mine is in the colour Natural Beige.
Their Mattify Fixing Mist is literally life. I go so spray happy with this using way more than I need too. It also smells great, some I have used that smell like you are just spraying chemicals on your face. And more importantly it works. My make up doesn’t run and it stays matte all day, no shine.
Their highlighter is one of the best I’ve ever used. I have got so many compliments from it, for £3 it is an absolute steal. Before I apply it I spray my brush with the fixing spray to ensure it stays. There are three different colours but I use it in Pink Shimmer. Iv tried other high end highlighters but they don't give nearly enough shine as this does.
Matte Perfect Loose Powder with Shine Control is perfect for baking your face with. I spray my blending sponge with my fixing spray and then put it on the desired areas. I also use it to cover any oily spots that have come through in the day.I really love how this leaves your face afterwards.
Before putting my make up on I use their moisturising primer. It goes onto the skin so much better than previous primers I have used and it also makes my skin as soft as anything. There is tea tree oil in the formula which is so good for skin. I also use it after washing my face at night, and i wake up with soft skin. I think I need to find a good night cream, until then I shall keep using this.
The Pro Brow Ultimate Eyebrow Kit in fair to mid is one of the best things I have ever used for my brows. The colour of the shadow is perfect for me, I’ve used a lot of different brow products to find the right shade and this is it! As well as the eyebrow shade it comes with brow gel to set your brows in place all day, I havent used this, instead I just use Natural Collection clear mascara as a brow gel. The is also a highlight for under the brow bone. I use this and some highlighter also to really make my brows pop. Excuse the state of the packaging.
So there you have it, my MUA haul and favourite products. If you have any questions about any of the products which I listed then get in contact with me. Ill be putting more make up hauls up over the next few days so keep any eye out for those. Are you following my Instagram? Make sure you do at @alexandralperry!!
After hardly ever wearing lipsticks I am now fully converted. One of my favourite brands Sleek has Matte Lip Creams that have the most amazing formula and range of colours. I have four of them. The other colours are more red tones which I’m not a fan of. They wash me out and just don’t suit me at all. I love how creamy they are when you first put them on, insuring that you have perfect coverage before letting it dry and become matte. They all aren’t sticky as other matte lipsticks are and you don’t need to keep reapplying either.
The first colour is Petal, a light pink shade which is perfect for spring and summer. The lightest shade of their collection. I always use the applicator to dab the product onto my lip and then use either my finger or a lip brush to blend the product into the lip.
Birthday Suit is the next, its the most nude of the collection. I really like this one as it goes with my complexion the most.
Bittersweet has to be my favourite colour of them all. The darkest pink that they do in the collection, its just so an amazing colour.
Velvet Slipper is the darkest shade that I have. I’m not one for a dark lip, I like to keep it nude or pink but this dries much lighter than it first appears.
So there we have it! All of my Sleek Matte Me Collection reviewed for you, if you have any questions then don’t hesitate to get in touch with me. Make sure you add me on Snapchat and Instagram to see my selfies of the products.

Getting ready in the mornings or for a night out is one of my favourite things to do. When you have the perfect space to do this then it makes it even more fun.
Living at university, it’s hard to make the best out of your student flat which you haven’t designed yourself. But making the most of what you have has to be done.
I have the smallest desk I have ever seen. It’s meant to be a work space for my laptop and books, but I can’t even deal with it. So I work from my bed and turned my desk into my dressing table.
So here is my beauty space.
Make up brushes are life!! Any girl will agree with me. I probably have too many but you cannot never have enough brushes. I use different means of storage; I have a cup from IKEA, an old coffee jar with some ribbon around it and a can with wrapping paper around it. I love up cycling things. This is such a good idea to do rather than going out and spending lots of money on expensive make up storage when you probably have lots of things you could use around your house.
My brushes are from Amazon. I brought all of the ones here for around £25. They are really good quality as well. I will do a post about them soon.
I brought this ‘makeup junkie’ stand from Forever 21 for £2.50. I stored my make up in a basket before and I could never remember what I had, so this stand is so handy. I kind of wish it was bigger because my entire make up collection does not fit in here. But eventually I will add to it.
I also brought this make up bag from Forever 21. This was £3. When I was going home for the summer it clicked I didn’t have a makeup bag. I mean what girl doesn’t have one. So I thought I would treat myself to one. My entire make up collection doesn’t fit in it though, although I don’t think you would find a bag big enough to fit it all in!
And finally I have a heart shaped basket with the rest of my makeup in it.
My mirror is my favourite present I’ve ever had. The lighting in my room is awful; with a lamp as well it just doesn’t cut it. So this mirror and light in one is perfect. It has two sides, a normal mirror and a 5x zoom one on the other side. I would love it to be a bit bigger but it still does the job and that’s good enough for me!
Ultimately when I leave university and have a permanent home then I will make my dressing table the best it can be. I want lots of lights and draws and a makeup collection which would make every beauty blogger jealous! Let’s hope that I have a good job then ey!
If you guys have any make up storage recommendations then do not hestitate to get in contact with me. Either comment below or tweet me @alexlaurenblog
Every girl has her own beauty essentials that she can just not live without. So I thought i would show you a glimpse of my every day routine. I have also put a few links in to other posts which explained products which i have already reviewed.
As I suffer with Eczema and dry skin I have to be careful what products I use, one moisturizer that I love is Aveeno Moisturising Cream. You might have seen it advertised by Jennifer Aniston on TV. I swear by this as it has Colloidal Oatmeal which is great for giving moisture to affected areas. Another moisturizer that I use in the shower is Ro’s Argan Body Conditioner. The shower gel I have been using Simple Baby Wash, I know what you are thinking, a baby shower gel? But it smells so amazing and it really soothes my sensitive skin more than any other shower gels.
My favourite part of getting ready for the day is putting my perfume on so I smell wonderful. I have used Lady Gaga’s Fame for around 3 years now and love it! It’s the first ever black fluid perfume, I thought it would come out black with me being a little ditzy, but it doesn’t! I use my Fame every day, about 100 times. I also love Vera Wang Lovestruck, this is such a fresh fragrance and use this if I am either going on a night out or somewhere nice. Deodorant is something I am super fussy about, at the moment I am loving Right Guard Total Defence Sport. It smells so nice and lasts me quite a while.
So every morning I use Micellar Water by Garnier to make sure my face is clean from all dirt. I then use Colgate Optic White Toothpaste to give me a brighter smile. I usually use Aqua Marina Face Mask every 3 or 4 days, click here to read more about the mask.
Dry Shampoo is my saviour, if I am running late and just want some volume and life in my hair I just spray this all over, massage in and I’m done! Another great product which I have come to love is Schwarzkopf Heat Protection Spray and is great for protecting my hair against the heat. I wash my hair every other day, sometimes if I can get away with it every 2 days but as I’m getting older I’m noticing it is getting greasy quicker, I don’t know if it’s the products I’m using or what. I usually change my shampoo and conditioner all the time as I like try new ones out, but at the moment I’m using Palmolive 2 in 1 Hydra Balance, this makes my hair smell so nice and gives it moisture. My conditioner is hbm, this is my favourite conditioner i have ever used. It makes my hair so so soft and fuller. I have quite dry hair and this is like I have had a conditioning mask on for hours.
I’m not a fan of the caked in makeup look and always have a pretty natural face apart from when I go on a night out so I put a bit more on. Before I even apply my make up I always use Lush Bubblegum Lip Scrub to remove any skin from my lips so my lipstick or gloss looks flawless. I always start applying my make up with primer; I use Bare Minerals Prime Time. Then I target any areas with MUA Pro Base Prime & Conceal Powder. If you want to read all about this product then click here. I then use my foundation which is KIKO Soft Focus Compact. Then I contour with my Barry M Chisel Cheeks Contour Kit, I am ashamed to say I can’t leave the house without contour anymore. Eyebrows are one of the most important features of a face in my opinion and I just use a clear mascara to brush mine upwards, and then go in with a highlighter under my brow from my eyebrow kit Brow Parlour by W7. I also use the same highlighter under my lips. Mascara is one thing I cannot live without. I have always used Maxfactor False Lash Effect but when I brought KIKO Luxurious Lashes I loved it even more.
So i hope you ave enjoyed reading about my daily routine. Make sure you comment and follow me on social media, which i have listed in the 'about' page. If you could follow me on Bloglovin then that would be great of you! I will be posting a Fitness post soon all about joining the gym.
So for those of you who saw my Lush Wish List post you will know that I was going to treat myself to some new products. I love everything about Lush and yes some people may think it is a little expensive for what it is but it actually does work. I literally walk in there and want to buy everything.
So in the end I brought myself the Damaged Hot Oil Treatment which was £6.50 instead of the H'Suan Wen Hua Hair Moisturiser i was actually going to buy. I spoke to the most friendly and helpful guy in there and he told me that he had been using the H'Suan Wen Hua but when Damaged came out it was his new favourite. I tried it on my hair this morning and it did not really end up like it should have done. You are meant to put the lolly pop looking stick into a tub and add 200ml of water, but the guy in the store said I should use half because my hair is short (it’s just below shoulder length). I think I added too much water because the mixture looked like water with bits in it. But it worked!! My hair was so soft and it made it look thicker than it usually does which is what I was hoping it would do. I would buy it again but not all the time as it is meant to last about 6 weeks.
My all time favourite Lush product is Aqua Marina and of course I stocked up on that. It makes your face so soft and makes your makeup go on and look even better. The bits of Seaweed and Calamine sooth your face and clean it of oils. I usually get little bumps along the side of my face, not spots or acne, I don’t really know what they are but the Cleanser gets rid of it within a week. For £6.75 it is worth it for something that is going to work, iv paid way more for numerous cleansers and face washes that have gone in the bin because they did not work.
I’ve wanted a body scrub for some time now and I was told to try Rough With The Smooth Scrub, I love the name of this one. Its £5.95 for a bar and you can either use it like soap and rub it all over you or break some off and do the same. It smells amazing and looks a little like a Lego brick with bumps on the top of it. I used it on my hands, arms and legs to start off with and my skin felt so soft and fresh afterwards. Along with this product I was told to try the Ro’s Argan Body Conditioner, a little pricy at £16.50 but in my opinion it is worth it. As the name suggests it is a conditioner so you use it in the bath or shower and just wash it off. At first I thought it wasn’t coming off in the shower and I felt a little waxy, but once I had came out and dried myself I was so soft. You do get a lot in the pot so if you used it sparingly you could get about a month’s use out of it.
I also brought the Lip Service Lip Balm. It says it ‘keeps lips supple and crack free’ so I thought I would try it out instead of the None of your Beeswax balm which I love. I was impressed with the taste of it as it has Shea Butter in it, but I do not like the feel of it on my lips. I think for £5.95 I wouldn’t buy this balm again.
So there is my haul, I hope to do more of these, money permitting of course. I have a couple more beauty posts coming up this week so be sure to keep any eye out for those. If you could be so kind as to like my Bloglovin page that would be lovely of you. I also have posted a post on the Personal page about my social media, so if you want to keep up to date on posts then you can follow me on Twitter, Instagram and like my Facebook page.
I was gifted a Lush voucher for my birthday and I want to buy everything in the store when I go in there as it is so finding only a few items to spend my voucher on is going to be hard.
I use three products from there already: the None of Yours Beeswax Lip Balm, Bubblegum Lip Scrub and the BB Seaweed face mask. But I want to try some new products so I have done a little bit of research of what I want to find and that will benefit me.
I will probably re buy the None of Your Beeswax Lip Balm. I have always found it hard to find a lip balm that actually moisturises my lips and keeps them that way but when I brought this all of my prayers were answered! I have lost my current one which makes me so sad.
Another product which I have used before is BB Seaweed Face Mask. If you want a good mask that will leave your skin so soft and refreshed. I did it every other day because I was so obsessed and it lasted me about 10 uses so it is well worth the money. It has bits of Seaweed in it which freaked me out a little at first but you just get used to it. The tub does go out of date in three weeks from when you buy it but if you just use it frequently like I did then there won’t be an issue about wasting any.
The H'Suan Wen Hua Hair Moisturiser is the top of what I want I try. My hair is quite dry from the suns damage this summer and from lightening it with L’Oreal Casting Sunkiss Jelly so I want to find something that is going to give my hair its life back. I have read some reviews and they are all mostly positive with people telling how transformed their hair has become. Of course there are negative views also but no product is going to work for every single person, but hopefully I see positive results.
I would love to by some Bath Bombs but my apartment does not have a bath, one of my best friends at uni does so I might have to make a trip to hers. She also has a blog and is amazing at make up so check her out: http://leaahiggins.weebly.com/ But instead I like the sound of The Comforter shower cream. I love anything pink and berry flavoured so I have a feeling this cream will be my new favourite. After reading some of the reviews some of them say how there isn’t much of a lather when applying the cream but they said it lasts for ages on the skin to keep you smelling amazing all day. People also say it gives lots of moisture so you don’t need to moisturize afterwards, which is perfect if you are in a rush.
So that’s all for my wish list, of course I would love to buy the whole store but I’m a poor student, so a few will have to do. I will post my Lush haul when i go to the store in a few days time so watch out for that post.
Iv been looking for a Matte lipstick for a while now and when i came across this Matte Lip Cream from Sleek Make Up i thought i would give it a try.
I'm not an avid wearer of coloured lip gloss or lipstick as i usually just wear just a lip balm, a bit plain i know, so i wanted to mix things up a bit.
The colour i brought is called petal, is a light pink and retails at £4.99.
My first impressions was the applicator, it is quite a solid wand where as other glosses i have tried have had a soft and movable wand, but i think i definitely prefer this applicator. However i did find that when i put the lip cream on my lips there was too much on the wand so i used my finger to evenly distribute it.
As i was using my finger instead of the applicator i found that it looked better on my lips, it was more even and surprisingly more of a Matte texture.
I did about three coats and blotted with tissue between each coat to get rid of the excess lip cream. By doing this it also gives a bolder colour.
I also brought a lip liner in a matching colour, i havent really used lip liners before and i thought i would try them out. I got the colour Softly Lined by MUA and loved it, i used it to obviously line my lips before using the lip cream. But i also used it all over my lips as it gave a nice subtle colouring. It retails at £1 and for that price is a real bargain. It also comes with a sharpener on the end of the lid which i think is good for the price of it.
I have read about colour correcting concealers and was dying to try them out. When i came across the Pro Base Prime and Conceal Powder by MUA, and at £4 i just had to try it out.
As i have a naturally red face and dark circles under my eyes i knew that the colours in the powder would help or at least hide them. Before i would usually just use a liquid concealer under my eyes to combat the dark circles. However as i have very dry skin due to having Eczema, i found that the concealer did not really help and would wear off during the day, not what i want out of a product.
So since switching to a powder foundation (KIKO Soft Compact Wet and Dry Foundation) i noticed that it suited my skin so much more and vowed never to go back to using liquid foundations.
The Pro Base Powder comes in four different colours which each have a different job. The peach colour is used to warm dark shades and circles. I found putting this under my eyes worked brilliantly, i looked like i had all of my beauty sleep.
The Lilac gives skin a brighter tone, if you just want to refresh a tired face then this colour is great for that, i usually just put it all over my face or if i notice a certain area then i will target that. The Yellow gets rid of purple under eye skin. I usually mix the yellow and peach to put under my eyes. The green colour is my favorite, i have a very red face naturally and i put this on the red patches and they disappear straight away, its brilliant! If i am in a rush and just want to give myself a quick glow then i use all of the colours by swirling a powder brush around it and putting it all over my face.
As well as a powder version there is a cream palette which has the same colours as well as an additional highlighting cream, it retails at the same price so is a bargain!
